After regaining his health, the king ordered that taverns would not be allowed to serve wine to customers unless it was accompanied by a small snack or &#8220;tapa&#8221;.<sup id=\"cite_ref-10\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/li>\n<li>Another popular explanation says that King\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Alfonso XIII\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alfonso_XIII\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alfonso XIII<\/a>\u00a0stopped by a famous tavern in\u00a0<a title=\"C\u00e1diz\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/C%C3%A1diz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">C\u00e1diz<\/a>\u00a0(Andalusian city) where he ordered a cup of\u00a0<a title=\"Wine\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wine<\/a>. The waiter covered the glass with a slice of cured ham before offering it to the king, to protect the wine from the beach sand, as C\u00e1diz is a windy place. The king, after drinking the wine and eating the tapa, ordered another wine &#8220;with the cover&#8221;.<sup id=\"cite_ref-11\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0THE ORIGINE AND THE LEGEND ABOUT THE BEST TAPEO<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A final possibility\u00a0surrounds\u00a0<a title=\"Philip III of Spain\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Philip_III_of_Spain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Felipe III<\/a>, who passed a law in an effort to curb rowdy drunken behavior, particularly among soldiers and sailors. The law stated that when one purchased a drink, the bartender was to place over the mouth of the mug or goblet a cover or lid containing some small quantity of food as part of the purchase of the beverage, the hope being that the food would slow the effects of the alcohol, and fill the stomach to prevent over-imbibing.<\/li>\n<li>In some bars and restaurants in Spain and across the globe, tapas have evolved into a more sophisticated cuisine. Tapas can be combined to make a full meal. In some Central American countries, such snacks are known as\u00a0<i>bocas<\/i>. In parts of Mexico, similar dishes are called\u00a0<i>botanas<\/i>.<\/li>\n<li>Tapas have evolved through Spanish history by incorporating new ingredients and influences. Most of the <a title=\"Iberian Peninsula\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iberian_Peninsula\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iberian Peninsula<\/a>\u00a0was invaded by the\u00a0<a title=\"Ancient Rome\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ancient_Rome\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Romans<\/a>, who introduced more extensive cultivation of the olive following their invasion of Spain in 212 B.C.<sup id=\"cite_ref-5\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Irrigation\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Irrigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">irrigation<\/a>\u00a0methods.
